GARDEN DESIGN

Garden  Design

We follow a precise and thorough methodology. When you contact us, you can expect to receive a service built around the following steps:

1. Initial Visit and Consultation

After contacting us, we will arrange an initial visit to discuss your garden and the ideas you have. It may be that you have a clear idea of what you would like, or none at all! Either way, our experienced designers can offer advice and help to turn your ideas and requirements into the seeds of a design brief, tailored always to reflect your particular tastes and budget.

Following this meeting, we will write to you to confirm your design requirements and provide you with a detailed fee proposal. It may be you wish to tackle an entire garden in one go, or develop a whole-garden plan, which can be packaged into smaller works, scheduled over a longer period of time: whatever your vision, we can work with you.

2. Site Survey

Following our initial meeting and your acceptance of the design brief and fee proposal, it is essential that we obtain an accurate survey of your existing garden or the land which is to be developed, as it is, before any landscaping work begins.

Depending on the design brief, our qualified designers will either complete this themselves or, for bigger more complicated projects, we will engage the services of an external surveyor. Your site survey will provide valuable information, including detail on the location of utilities, drains, the different levels in the land, property boundaries, existing features including significant or protected trees and any other details essential to the design process.

3. Creating the Design

A typical garden design will consist of a ‘master plan’, used more commonly with complex projects, or an ‘outline plan’ for smaller gardens. Depending on the project, our designers will use a combination of hand drawn plans, illustrations and CAD (Computer Assisted Design) to create your garden design.

We can also provide visuals showing the different elevations for the proposed design, to help you understand what the finished garden will look like, once it has been constructed. Depending on your needs, we can either design the whole space, or just a part of it, should you wish to spread the development of your garden over a longer period of time.

4. Layout Plan and Specification

Once you have agreed on the design and proposed work, a further set of documents, including a Layout Plan and a detailed specification will be produced. These are the plans which our landscapers will use to construct and build your garden.

For larger, more complex projects, these are also the documents which will be used in any tender process for features, including swimming pools, garden rooms or any out buildings which may have been commissioned.

5. Planting

Our designers will develop a separate plan detailing every plant, shrub and tree to be planted in your garden. This will be very detailed and will be tailored according to your garden's aspect and will include the plant type and variety, size and number of plants, their location and their spacing to allow the plants to grow.

We will work with you to incorporate your planting tastes and preferences. Whether it be a preference for perennials, scented, flowering plants and shrubs, grasses or meadows, or something which is lower maintenance, we are happy to spend time with you to help you create a garden which truly reflects your personal preferences.

Alternatively, we are happy to recommend all the plants for you.
